FAQ
Read, Right & Run
Kisco Kids go the Distance!
What on earth is
Read, Right & Run?
It’s a Mount Kisco Public Library program for children where participants have 26 weeks to run or walk 26 miles, read 26 books (or read for 26 hours), and do 26 good deeds.
When does it start?
The kickoff for this program will be on April 5th,
at the American Legion Hall in
Who can participate
in this program?
Children between the ages of 5-18.
What if I hate to run
or walk?
Can I do other types of
exercise?
Yes, you can do soccer, basketball, baseball, swimming, and other aerobic activities. Each hour of these activities counts as 1 mile of running.
“Rights” are good deeds, and participants need to do 26 of them to finish the challenge. You can help your parents by unloading their groceries, care for your brothers and sisters, do some cleaning without being asked, read to other children, help your neighbors, tutor another student, or participate in volunteer activities. It’s important to remember that if you get paid for these things with an allowance, then they aren’t “rights” and they don’t count towards your goal.
The Library will give you a form so that you can keep track of the books you’ve read, the miles you’ve run, and the good deeds that you’ve accomplished.
This program is designed to develop the body and the mind. You are always free to do one part or another separately, but you must do all three parts in order to participate in this program.
That’s fantastic! Think of what an inspiration you’ll be to other kids doing the challenge. If you finish before the end, you can bask in the glory of being one of the best! You don’t have to do anything else.
The last day is October 4th. Please turn in your form at the Library within the next 7 days so that you can be entered for extra prizes. We’re planning a big ceremony and party!
